Anna + Ethan - Philadelphia, PA

Writer's picture: Delaney TaylorDelaney Taylor

I love a good one-liner for a wedding, and Anna and Ethan's simple welcome sign is so fitting for this masterpiece classic of a marriage that I'll be brief about the rest...

"Our love story is FANTASTICK, we fell in love singing and dancing." No typos there; Anna and Ethan both played major roles in the musical "The Fantasticks" together while their love burgeoned. Now, if you're like me, you've never seen "The Fantasticks," but just by looking at this wedding from a theatre-outsider's perspective, it's obvious the details were chosen with the same thoughtful care a costumer or a director puts into their play.

And the soundtrack was no exception. There were so many touching family tributes in Ethan and Anna's intimate ring ceremony--advice, line-readings, prayers--that it seemed almost like a private performance. And anyone privileged to attend will no doubt recall the warm, home, September sensation that was the piano interlude of "Try to Remember."

... Try to remember when life was so tender

That dreams were kept beside your pillow.

Try to remember when life was so tender

That love was an ember about to billow.

Try to remember, and if you remember,

Then follow...

...Deep in December, our hearts should remember

And follow. -"Try to Remember Excerpt" from "The Fantasticks"

After witnessing Anna and Ethan exchange rings, I have no doubt this love isn't theatre, and Anna and Ethan are certainly choosing to follow their hearts. May you do so always. Choose your love, love your choice.
