One of the best parts of my job as a photographer is watching love stories unfold over time. If I'm lucky, I watch milestones like graduations, engagements, marriages, and new babies being born like a play in individual acts; therefore, I was thrilled to capture photos of William and Sanneke's budding family! Coping with parenthood in a pandemic is certainly not easy, and having your first as the world stops and the village you've built fractures into households is pretty anxiety-inducing. I think it's safe to say that these two were not anticipating signing up for such a ride. But they've coped with it beautifully. I love that you can look at these photos and assume that these two are just like any young couple enjoying the tenderness of their new family life. No pandemic, no roaring wildfires, no political upheaval and division...just a family, full of love, joy and devotion.
And this is what I love about it: no matter what is happening in the world, no matter if the moment is clean and bright in the midst of golden hour like a photograph, or the moment is one of nervousness in the middle of the night as your child refuses to go to bed and the storm of life rages outside... if family is at the center of it, something is ok. It will be ok, because there's something worth caring about.
Love is worth choosing, even when it's hard... and sometimes it's not hard... sometimes it's perfect.
Choose your love, love your choice.
