Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham, NC: Travel Photography

Writer's picture: Delaney TaylorDelaney Taylor

Honestly, travel is a huge part of my happiness. It challenges the mundane and inspires creativity, and the easiest and most affordable way to do it is in your own backyard!

So the hubs and I took an evening to explore the Sarah P. Duke Gardens of Durham, NC, not more than a half an hour drive from our base in Raleigh, NC, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. And we didn’t even get through the whole thing! We just explored the Fish Pool and Historic Terraces! There are three other gardens I’ll have to go back to explore. Parking is $1 and it’s open for free from dawn to dusk.

Some of the main features I noticed were the crane fountain, luminescent lilies, the last roses of summer, a gorgeous gazebo spread with lily ponds and the biggest lily pads I’ve seen in my life! There are so many beautiful details in nature, I couldn't possible capture them all. Thank heavens we can go back!
