We pulled up in our blue Toyotas at Paxton House in Buena Vista, VA and started talking like we had just done our first shoot together yesterday. So much can change in such a short time, I thought, and though I’ve never experienced it, I bet expecting a baby is wholly characterized by change.
“We’re looking at grad schools in Raleigh!” they told me excitedly, as that’s where I’m usually based. “Yes please!” I said. After all, I would love to have the Princes and their soon-to-be “Princess” nearby. I met Cory and Lucy in college and we even had classes together, but for one reason or another, we never really got to know each other well until a year or so ago when we had our first photo session together last year, which you can see here. Since then, Lucy and I have been self-proclaimed “soul sisters” and in between catching each other at various events in our meeting place of Buena Vista, VA, I’ve been hoping to do another session together ever since.
Cory and Lucy have a beautiful, warm, tender relationship. During both of our shoots, they’ve played games like thumb war and staring contest until Cory can make Lucy giggle. Lucky guy, he’s going to have two giggling misses in less than a month. And by the sounds of it, he’ll be a perfect dad. As already mentioned, he’s applying for grad school and he’s finished at least seven applications already. HUGE accomplishment. Meanwhile, he’s on the Southern Virginia University football team and working and loving Lucy as well. And Lucy is such a light, full of joy and adoring excitement. If she’s at all nervous to be a mother, it’s hidden under her beaming smile, her enveloping warmth, and thick curly crown of red curls (that I envy more with each new photo).
Baby Princess, you probably don’t understand this yet, but you’re coming into a world of love and light, and your parents couldn’t be more joyous to meet you.
