It's hard to believe how much can change in a year. Or how fast it can pass you by if you're not watching closely. This year has been a banner year for my photography, and even if this were the last session of the year (unlikely) I'm so grateful for this particular shoot for what it represents. The year has come full circle, but we have all made progress somewhere and experienced so much.
I started out 2017 with Mary and Ben and their then soon-to-be baby, and I am so grateful to be able to finish out the year with them and their adorable, beautiful daughter Marlowe. We scouted around for a few locations to find the perfect light for their session and talking and soaking up the season and the beginning of the holidays really felt like coming home.
In my original post with Ben and Mary this year, there was apprehension and excitement about a new journey and the adventure it is to become a parent; perhaps the greatest reward to taking those photos and now these family photos has been seeing the transition into free and open joy. Yes, the unknowns will always be there in the shadow of the day--as Mary told me, the weight of the fears of losing the gladness and the gifts that you have strengthen when you meet your baby; however, but, as we celebrate especially during this time of year, ringing in the new love, devotion, happiness and giddiness of what's just around the corner can be even more joyous, relieving, and rewarding. I think that's ultimately one reason why we choose our loves--we will always love them more than we fear the possibilities that come with it.
