William Returns! - Buena Vista, VA

Anyone who knows William knows that it’s impossible to take photos of him without William-isms in the mix. And that’s half the fun! (See below) William returned from a two year service mission in Idaho about a month and a half ago and he has many heartfelt and hilarious stories about the people he served, the places he lived, and the other young men he served with there. In fact, most of the faces he made for these photos are visual ventriloquy in honor of them—mimicry is the highest form of flattery, am I right? (Side note: I’d love to know if any of those guys think they know which represents them.)

I was very downtrodden when the weather got so chilly just before our photos (Taylors have a natural way of channeling Santa and Rudolph during the wintry seasons—read: they get very rosy in the cold) and William likes to wear his socks with his Hawaiian “Jesus Sandals” as they’ve been nicknamed—I only wish I had a photo of him wearing them in the leftover frost! So… we had to keep our shoot short and sweet. No melodica, no Legend of Zelda cosplay or extreme hula-hooping was in the mix, most unfortunately. But I think Mama Taytay will be happiest to have one of these low-budget, distilled William head-shots for her wall anyway.

Perhaps what I admire most about William goes hand in hand with all of this—William is always William. There’s no putting on airs, no cry for attention, no false pretense; it’s all him. Whether it’s wearing leather jackets with basketball shorts, playing “hokey” arrangements of his favorite piano repertoire, or his deep affection for Dorky Eragon videos on youtube. William knows what he likes, who he is and he embraces it. As for me, I think that’s why he always seems so happy. Choose your love, love your choice.
