A quick fairytale of firsts for you all today on the blog--at least, I'm telling it like a fairytale, sort of... Once upon a time, my brother-in-law William met a new freshman girl at Southern Virginia University named Sanneke. After becoming friends, William asked Sanneke on a date around the beginning of February, and...they lived happily ever after. Ha ha. Okay, there's more.
One day they were walking together down some steps and it seemed a bit icy, so William suggested he hold Sanneke's hand down the steps so she wouldn't slip...only, they didn't let go at the bottom of the stairs. My teeth hurt it's so sweet. :D
Once upon another time, William told Sanneke he would like to see more of her, that he wasn't dating anyone else and would she mind or even like it if they kept dating each other. After a (what William calls excruciatingly long) pause, Sanneke nodded and said, "Yeah, I think I'd be okay with that." A very diplomatic answer--which I think turned William a little red, but only because he didn't maybe know that Sanneke hadn't planned on dating anyone upon starting school.
Anyway, fast-forward to the summer where these true-lovebirds spent the entire season long-distance--Sanneke in her home of Canada and William still in Virginia--and yet continued to have date nights! My particular favorite was when William came to stay with us and we planned a game of Zelda Clue (played over Skype) and burgers and fries--William even got one of Sanneke's friends in Canada to deliver the American faire to Sanneke's house! Talk about chivalry! And finally, skip to Thanksgiving weekend, where somewhere in Glen Maury, these two got engaged!
So see, they really are living happily ever after. ; ) Congrats and welcome to the family Sanneke! I hope you both always remember:
